Many wondered why the 34-year-old snubbed a reunion with Guardiola after they worked together successfully during their time at the Camp Nou.
Initial reports suggested that a whopping £230 000 (R4 million) a week contract, double what City had offered, was the reason behind Alves' change of mind.
However, Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte has now claimed that Neymar had already told his close friend he would be joining PSG in this window, which is why Alves decided to the join the French giants.
