Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva and manager Unai Emery have defended Neymar's decision to snub Edinson Cavani the chance to become the French club's all-time top scorer on Wednesday night.
Neymar Booed By PSG Fans For Denying Cavani All-Time Record
The Brazilian, who had already scored a hat-trick by the time the incident arose, denied his Uruguayan teammate the chance to take a penalty kick late in PSG's 8-0 thrashing of Dijon, which would have seen him break Zlatan Ibrahimovic's record for the most goals scored for the club.
The crowd chanted for Cavani to take the kick, but Neymar stepped up and, despite the whistles, converted it, and his captain Silva has since had his say on the matter.
"There were some of the supporters against him (Neymar), but the most important thing is the final score and the win," Silva told Canal+.
"And for Edi, the record will come. He scores all the time, there are still a lot of games to play this year, he will beat all records."
PSG manager Emery also comment on the incident, and insisted there were no bad vibes in the camp afterwards.
"Cavani, he is our goalscorer, he improved a lot, his individual statistics help the team and the team help him get his goals," the Spanish tactician said.
"Neymar hit the penalty kick, and he (Cavani) will have other chances to score more goals. The team is better with Neymar. All wins and stats are made to benefit the whole team."
