Ligue 1 Report: Paris Saint-Germain v Montpellier 01 February 2020

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 5-0 Montpellier

Date: 01 February 2020

Venue: Parc de Princes

Paris Saint-Germain were in a rampant mood after thumping Keagan Dolly's Montpellier 5-0 to strengthen their grip at the top of Ligue 1.

The French champions went with their star-studded attack as usual, while Dolly was left out of the match-day squad.

The hosts got the start they wanted as Pablo Sarabia opened the scoring after just eight minutes with a superb finish from close range after some good work by Neymar.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors, who were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Dimitry Bertaud was shown a straight red card for bringing down Mbappe who was clear on goal.

The numerical disadvantage certainly played in PSG's favour as the hosts were in complete control, with Mbappe going close to a second goal in the 25th minute.

The second goal eventually arrived in the 41st minute, with Angel di Maria dinking the ball over the on-rushing Mathis Carvalho after latching onto Sarabia's pass.

There was enough time for a third goal just before the break as Daniel Congre deflected the ball into his own net after the Montpellier defence failed to deal with Di Maria's corner.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Thomas Tuchel's men bagged a fourth goal just before the hour mark as Neymar played the ball through defence for Mbappe, who knocked the ball past Carvalho.

Montpellier finished the game with nine men after after Joris Chotard was given his marching orders on 88 minutes for a second bookable offence.

Edinson Cavani, who asked to leave in the January transfer window, thought he had rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute but his strike was flagged offside as the encounter finish 5-0.
