While the South African tactician seems to be finally finding his feet in Casablanca, with Wydad currently sitting in third position in the Botola Pro Inwi, it was not plain sailing for the 38-year-old at the beginning of his tenure with the Moroccan giants.
In recent months, there has been intense speculation that the Red Castle's top brass was keen on appointing a Moroccan coach to help Mokwena further acclimatise to the league. It seems that the three-time African champions have finally found their man.
Youssef Achami appears poised to be appointed as the Johannesburg native's newest right-hand man, and the 48-year-old recently confirmed the news, stating that it is only a matter of time before he returns to the home of the North African champions.
"There is an agreement between me and the Wydad management to work as an assistant coach to Rulani Mokwena, waiting for matters to be formalised and announced officially as there are still procedures," he told Goud.
Achami has been an assistant at Wydad before, working under Tunisian head coach Faouzi Benzarti and Serbian Zoran Manojlovic between 2018 and 2020. He is now set for a third stint at the club. It is understood that he is appreciated for his ability to speak English and his extensive knowledge of the nation's top division.

With 11 games left in the league, Wydad will be hoping that Achami's appointment helps the club return to continental football, as they missed out on CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup football altogether this season.
