The Brazil legend left Fluminense by mutual consent three months ago, and was linked with a move to a club in Australia's A-League, as well as teams in Qatar and the US.
However, Swiss side Sion are reportedly keen to lure the two-time FIFA World Player of the Year back to Europe.
"Ronaldinho is definitely an interesting option," Sion general director Marco Degennaro told Swiss publication Blick.
"We will look into the possibility of signing him at the start of the year."
Degennaro also revealed that, even if the club do not end up signing the Brazilian next month, they will definitely be looking to add some fresh legs to their squad.
"We will definitely do something in the transfer market in January because we are still playing in three competitions.
"We want to keep all of our players and bring in two or three fresh faces."
The 35-year-old last played in Europe in 2011, when he left AC Milan to join Flamengo. The journeyman has since featured for Atletico Mineiro, Mexican side Queretaro and Fluminense.
