Oscar's €60 million (R866 million) move from Chelsea to Shanghai SIPG was the most expensive deal of the window, ahead of Julian Draxler's €40 million (R577 million) transfer from Wolfsburg to PSG.

Gabriel Jesus, who was Pep Guardiola's only buy, was the third most expensive transfer of the window overall, taking Manchester City's spending to a whopping €213 million (R3.1 billion) for the season.

Goncalo Guedes, who has been dubbed the "next Cristiano Ronaldo", follows in fourth spot after completing a €30 million (R461 million) switch from Benfica to PSG.

Dimitri Payet's enforced move from West Ham United back to Olympique Marseille was probably the ugliest saga in Europe but the Hammers did receive €29.3 million (R423 million) for his services – the fifth highest outlay in January.

Odian Ighalo's €23.3 million (R336 million) Deadline Day move from Watford to Changchun Yatai made the Nigerian the most expensive African of the window.

Morgan Schneiderlin, who joined Everton for €22.9 million (R330 million), became Jose Mourinho's biggest sale since he took over at Old Trafford, while Chengdong Zhang (€20.4 million, R295 million), Axel Witsel (€20 million, R289 million) and Alexandre Pato (€18 million, R260 million) complete the top 10.
