According to Marca, club president Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane are in on-going discussions about Mbappe, who is one of Europe's top talents.
However, it is believed that Real would have to part ways with superstar Gareth Bale if they are serious about signing the 21-year-old.
Zidane believes Mbappe's possible arrival will effect the Welshman, who has struggled with injury. While the French forward could also halt Marco Asensio's development at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Marca also claim that Los Blancos could agree a big deal with Monaco in this transfer window, with the player only expected to join in 2018.
Monaco are looking to make Mbappe the most expensive player in the world, which means Real would have to pay a lot for the striker's services.
