It has been claimed the United manager has shifted his focus to an out-and-out striker as Zlatan Ibrahimovic's injury could rule him out until 2018.
ESPN recently claimed that Griezmann was United's main target, with the Atletico Madrid star even rating his chances of joining the English club as "six out of 10".
However, with Ibrahimovic's future uncertain, Mourinho apparently wants to focus on a new main striker.
In addition, the decision to uphold Atletico's transfer ban was announced on Thursday. As a consequence, the club would not be able to sign any potential replacement for Griezmann, which has cast further doubt on whether or not he will leave the Rojiblancos in the upcoming window.
Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata, Everton's Romelu Lukaku, Torino's Andrea Belotti and AS Monaco's teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe are now reportedly on Mourinho's wish list for the position.
