The Blues have apparently held talks with Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato in recent weeks as they look to bolster their attack after injuries to forwards Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao.
Chelsea have been linked with a few other forwards, such as AC Milan's Carlos Bacca, but the Italian side are unwilling to sell the player in January, according to The Independent.
Pato has admitted to wanting a move to England, and could be available to Chelsea for about £10 million.
The former Milan forward was linked with Liverpool last week, with it being reported that the Merseyside club were closing in on a deal, but the move fell through. Manchester United were also said to be interested in the striker in the summer, but nothing came of it.
Pato has played 278 senior club matches, scoring 107 goals and assisting a further 34 strikes for clubs such as Milan, Sao Paulo, Corinthians and Internacional.
The 26-year-old has also played 28 times for Brazil, finding the back of the net on 10 occasions for his country.
