The former Ghana international had been training with Milan since September, after falling out with Schalke 04's hierarchy last year.
Despite being in and around the Milan camp, Boateng's contract with his former side was only terminated last month, meaning he was still legally tied to the German club and unable to make his move with the Italian Giants sooner.
Boateng, of course, played for Milan from 2010 until 2013, before leaving to Schalke for a fee of around £7 million.

In his first spell with Milan, Boateng played 100 matches, scoring 17 goals, while he assisted a further 16 strikes.
