Ex-FC Barcelona Striker Samuel Eto'o Joins Lebogang Manyama's Club

Ex-FC Barcelona Striker Samuel Eto'o Joins Lebogang Manyama's Club

Former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o has made a surprise switch to Lebogang Manyama's club in Turkey, amid rumours that the South African could return to the PSL.

Click through the mini-gallery above to see how Eto'o caused a stir upon his arrival at Konyaspor airport.

Africa's most decorated player, who recently visited South Africa, has left Antalyaspor to join Super Lig rivals Konyaspor.

Eto'o has scored six goals and assisted in another three in 15 appearances for Antalyaspor – the club he joined in 2015 – this season, but has now opted to switch, as confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday night.

"Our new transfer, Samuel Eto'o, landed at Konya Airport with a private plane tonight at 23:00. Samuel Eto'o, accompanied by our Deputy Chairman Celalettin Çakici, was welcomed by an enthusiastic supporter group at the airport and by our board member Memduh Abaz," read a statement (as translated from Turkish into English) on Konyaspor's official website.

"Eto'o had difficulty reaching the car in the show of great love. Our supporters also cheered for Eto'o for a long time.

"Our new transfer then moved towards the hotel where it was. Eto'o will go to the green court after the signing ceremony at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 31 and will greet our supporters on the western stand."

Antalyaspor, for whom Eto'o has scored 44 goals in 77 games, also had a short farewell message for their departing captain on their own website.

"Our team, which we transferred in the 2015-2016 season, separated our way with our captain Samuel Eto'o by mutual agreement," it states.

"We thank him for his contributions to the club so far and we wish him success in the next sporting event."

Konyaspor, where Manyama has only played 180 minutes across seven appearances, sits in second-last place – one spot behind Eto'o's old club Antalyaspor – in the Super Lig.

Manyama himself was recently spotted in South Africa, fuelling speculation he could return to the PSL, but the Siya crew reported that he came to see his family and he will return to his Turkish club, where he could now link up with Africa's most decorated player.
