The Blues have improved slightly since the sacking of Jose Mourinho, and are still unbeaten under interim boss Guus Hiddink.
However, it seems the defending Premier League champions are struggling to attract top signings, as former Arsenal and FC Barcelona star Thierry Henry explained.
"Clearly, the damage the team has suffered in recent months runs far deeper than anyone realised," Henry wrote in his weekly column for The Sun newspaper.
"No top player is going to sign for Chelsea during the January window because they don't know who the manager will be next season, or if they will be playing in the Champions League."
Alexandre Pato seems closest to joining the Blues, with some reports claiming a loan deal has already been agreed, but Hiddink is not 100% sure if signing the Brazilian forward is a good idea.
West Brom striker Saido Berahino also remains in Chelsea's reckoning, with the club intent on adding more firepower to their attack.
Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira has been linked with the Stamford Bridge-based team as well, but the 26-year-old is reportedly in negotiations with Liverpool.
Paris Saint-Germain winger Ezequiel Lavezzi is another name in the mix, while Everton defender John Stones seems to be a long-term target for the Blues.
