An FC Barcelona official has confirmed that the Catalan club tried their best to sign a star attacker in the January transfer window.

The Spanish giants were linked with former Barca B player Nolito, who plays for Celta Vigo, throughout the transfer window, and the Blaugrana's sporting vice-president, Jordi Mestre, has now confirmed that the club attempted to sign the Spaniard. However, Celta declined their bids.
"Barcelona put in all they could, plus even more to try to sign him," he said at the Mundo Deportivo gala.
"There were negotiations and we did make offers and alternative deals more than we could.
"But, on the other side, Celta did not give in."

Nolito has been one of La Liga's best performers this season, scoring eight goals and assisting a further five strikes in 15 league matches.
