It has almost become a trend that Brazil's greatest players have a stint in Spain with one of the two La Liga giants at some point in their career.
The latest star linked with a move to Spain is Liverpool's Coutinho, who seems to have stepped up his game this season.
After impressing for the Reds and Brazil before his recent injury, many of his countrymen, many of whom are still affiliated with their former employers, linked the 24-year-old with either Barca or Real.
Ronaldinho, for example, believes Coutinho could help the Blaugrana to address the gap left by Xavi Hernandez and the ageing Andres Iniesta.
"I can't speak for him and I can't speak for Barcelona – but I know what Barcelona look for in a player and he has all those qualities," he said, as quoted by Squawka.
"After all those years at the club, Xavi has left and Iniesta is now in his thirties – they will need to address that.
"That is why I think Barcelona and Coutinho would be the perfect fit."
While Neymar has also publicly shown his admiration for his Brazil teammate, legends such Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo would like to see Coutinho at Barcelona's bitter rivals.
