Jose Mourinho's charges are already out of the League Cup and seemingly the Premier League title race, but they begin their quest for a 13th title with a clash at home to Reading.
Manchester City, who were eliminated by Wigan Athletic last season, take on Rotheram, while Liverpool will face Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The third round fixture is scheduled to get underway on the first weekend in January 2019.
