FA Cup
Result: Wigan Athletic 1-0 Manchester City
Date: 19 February 2018
Venue: DW Stadium
Manchester City crashed out of the FA Cup after losing 1-0 to League One side Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Monday night.
The Citizens threatened early on, with Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan going close in the opening five minutes.
The hosts caved out an opening of their own 11th minute when Will Grigg was played in on goal, but the Welsh striker could only fire into the side-netting.
Wigan were dealt a blow on 26 minutes when former Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell was forced off with an injury.
Gundogan went close another effort in the 34th minute but Wigan goalkeeper Christian Walton was well positioned to tip the German's fierce strike away.
There was a bit of drama on the stroke of halftime when Fabian Delph was shown a straight red card for a studs up challenge.
Despite being a man down, the Citizens dominated in second half but they were unable to bypass the Wigan defence in the opening 20 minutes.
That prompted Pep Guardiola to introduce Kevin de Bruyne for David Silva with 25 minutes remaining in the half.
However, with nine minutes remaining, Wigan took a shock lead when Grigg latched on to a mistake from Kyle Walker before sending a fine curling effort past Claudio Bravo.
The Premier League leaders pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Wigan remained resolute to hold on for a famous victory.
