FA Cup
Result: Watford 3-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Date: 07 April 2019
Venue: Wembley Stadium
Watford will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final after coming back from two goals down to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers in a five-goal thriller at Wembley Stadium.
Joao Moutinho almost opened the scoring for Wolves in the fifth minute from a free--kick, but his shot just missed slightly over the bar. The sides were going at each other with pace and not pulling out of tackles and Andre Gray should have found the breakthrough for Javi Gracia's charges on the half-hour mark after he was picked out by Troy Deeney, but he guided his strike over the bar from close range. Matt Doherty finally broke the deadlock for Santo's men nine minutes before the break with a header at the back post following a cross from Diogo Jota. Shortly after the break, Ruben Neves had a great chance to make it 2-0 for Wolves ten minutes into the second stanza with a free-kick from an acute angle on the right side of the box that sailed slightly wide. Raul Jimenez ultimately found the second goal for Wolves after the hour mark, with a superb control and volley from close-range. Gerard Deulofeu reduced the deficit for Watford 11 minutes before time, shortly after coming on for Mark Hughes, with a cheeky chip from just inside the edge of the box. Watford received a lifeline in stoppage time as they were awarded a penalty, which Troy Deeney rifled home to send the game into extra-time. Deulofeu gave the Hornets the lead in the 14th minute of extra time after slotting a low strike past Ruddy at the near post following after being played in by Grey. Wolves pushed for an equaliser late on, but Watford remained resolute to secure the win and their spot in the final.
