FA Cup Third Round
Result: Manchester City 5-0 Burnley
Date: 26 January 2019
Venue: Etihad
Manchester City showed Burnley no mercy as the Citizens romped to a 5-0 win and secured their spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola made a number of changes for the encounter as a number of first team regulars, who were rested in the Carabao Cup returned to the starting line-up.
City dominated in the opening exchanges, but Burnley had goalkeeper Nick Pope to thank for keeping the home side at bay in the early stages.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 23rd minute as Gabriel Jesus collected a pass from Danilo before cutting inside to fire a low strike past Pope.
It was one-way traffic in the first half, as the visitors were unable to carve out a serious opening while City went close with John Stones and Bernardo Silva.
Seven minutes into the second half, the Citizens managed to double their lead, with Bernardo Silva firing home from close range following a neat build-up.
The third goal arrived on the hour-mark as Kevin de Bruyne got on the score-sheet with a stunning finish after being teed up by Mahrez.
It was 4-0 on 72 minutes, with De Bruyne playing a part as his powerful cross was deflected into the back of the net by Burnley's Kevin Long.
Sergio Aguero, who replaced Jesus earlier, got his name on the score-sheet with six minutes remaining from the penalty spot to round off an emphatic win for the Citizens.
