Result: Crystal Palace 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Date: 27 January 2019
Venue: Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace piled more misery on Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-0 victory in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday evening. Mauricio Pochettino made eight changes from the team that last played against Chelsea on Thursday in the League Cup, as only goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente kept their place in the line-up. Wickham sent Palace ahead in the ninth minute after arriving at the right place in the right time to finish off a move at the back post against the run of play, 1-0. Andros Townsend doubled the lead for the hosts against his former side in the 33rd minute from the penalty spot after Kyle Walker-Peters handled the ball inside the box, 2-0. Spurs had a glorious chance to pull a goal back a minute before the break after they were awarded a penalty of their own, but Kieran Trippier sent his spot-kick wide of the upright. Pochettino needed more bite and control in the midfield as he introduced Erik Lamela at the beginning of the second stanza in place of Vertonghen. Llorente had a chance to get a goal back for the visitors on the hour-mark with a strike from close range but goalkeeper Julian Speroni was on hand to deny the Spaniard Palace were tightening things at the back as the half draw to a close as Luka Milivojevic came on for Max Meyer, while Pochettino threw Kazaiah Sterling for Lucas Moura. Wilfried Zaha almost ended the game as a contest for Palace five minutes before time after going clear on the left side of the box but his shot at the near post was saved by Gazzaniga, In the end, 2-0 was how the score remained as Spurs bow out of another competition just days after losing to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
