Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the play-off round after surviving another scare to beat North Macedonian side Shkendija 3-1 at Ecolog Arena.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho shuffled the side that escaped a shock exit against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the previous round, with Dele Alli being recalled, goalkeeper Joe Hart getting a debut while Harry Kane started on the bench.

Erik Lamela settled the nerves for visitors early on with the opener in the fifth minute but Valmir Nafiu gave Spurs a scare with the equaliser five minutes from the break.

However, Son Heung-Min restored the lead for the English giants with 20 minutes remaining before Kane settled the tie in the last 11 minutes.

The Lilywhites will host Israeli side Maccabi Haifa in the play-off round in the first week of October and the winner of the single-leg tie will qualify for the group stages.

AC Milan booked a spot in the play-off round after edging Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in a five-goal thriller courtesy of a brace by Hakan Calhanoglu at the San Siro Stadium.

Milan made only two changes to the side that beat Bologna in the Serie A, with veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19 and Lorenzo Colombo took his place while Alexis Saelemaekers replaced Ante Rebic.

Kasper Junker gave the visitors a shock lead in the first quarter of an hour but only for Calhanoglu and Lorenzo Colombo to grab two goals from behind to give Milan a 2-1 lead heading to the break.

Calhanoglu gave the Italian giants a two-goal cushion and grabbed his brace five minutes from the break.

However, Jens Hauge pulled a goal back for the Norwegian side just five minutes later to keep the game on the edge but the Rossoneri held on to book a spot in the play-off round.

Milan will fight for a spot in the group stages against Portuguese side Rio Ave away from home, in a single-leg tie.
