Report: Manchester United 2-1 LASK (7-1 on aggregate)
Date: 05 August 2020
Venue: Old Trafford
Manchester United have secured passage to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals with a 7-1 aggregate-victory over LASK in the round of 16.
With the Red Devils leading 5-0 from the first league, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rang the changes as Harry Maguire and Brandon Williams were the only players retained from the win over Leicester City last month.
The visitors nearly got themselves the opening goal after nine minutes through Andrade, whose towering header crashed against the upright.
LASK managed to carve out another opening on 27 minutes but Marko Raguz steered his wide while Maguire went close with a headed effort of his own at the other end two minutes later.
Other than the Maguire, United had struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances in open play as they failed to register a single effort on target in the first half.
The deadlock was broken on 54 minutes as Philipp Wiesinger found the back of the net with a superb curling effort that found the top corner.
LASK's joy was short-lived though as Fred played in Jesse Lingard, who raced and calmly slotted home from close range for his second goal of the competition.
That proved to be Lingard's final involvement as his made way for Andreas Perriera while Paul Pogba replaced Fred for the final 30 minutes.
However, it was another substitute who got the winning goal for United as Anthony Martial combined Mata before firing under Alexander Schlager for his fourth goal of the tournament as the hosts move on to the last eight.
