UEFA Europa League Report: Chelsea v Malmo 21 February 2019

UEFA Europa League

Result: Chelsea 3-0 Malmo (Chelsea won 5-1 on agg.)

Date: 21 February 2019

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Chelsea got back to winning ways as they defeated Malmo 3-0 in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last 32 tie at Stamford Bridge.

Following a slow start, Chelsea missed a good chance to go in front when Olivier Giroud's header sailed over the top in the opening minutes.

Little happened in the way of clear scoring chances, though the visitors crept forward on occasion and managed to carve out a couple half-chances,

Chelsea gave little breathing room to the Swedish side, as Cesar Azpilicueta missed a sitter following a goal-mouth scramble on 32 minutes.

Leaning to halftime, the Blues battled to open up the rigid opponents and went to the break goalless.

Ten minutes into the second half, Giroud turned home Willian's cross from six-yards after some superb work by N'Golo Kante in the build-up.

Malmo's evening turned sour when Rasmus Bengtsson was sent for an early shower following a second bookable offence with 15 minutes remaining.

The Blues used the advantage to go further in front as Ross Barkley sent a superb free-kick over the wall beyond the reach of Dahlin a minute later.

In the final minutes, Callum Hudson-Odoi completed the victory when he smashed home into the far corner after being picked out by Willian as the Blues claim a 3-0 win on the night and 5-1 win on aggregate.

Chelsea joins fellow London rivals Arsenal in the round of 16, easing some pressure on under fire manager Maurizio Sarri.
