Result: Arsenal 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
Date: 28 November 2019
Venue: Emirates Stadium
The pressure continues to mount for Unai Emery after Arsenal suffered a 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
Granit Xhaka, who infamously had a bust-up with the Arsenal supporters a while ago, returned to the line-up while Pierre Emerick Aubameyang partnered Gabriel Martinelli upfront.
Arsenal looked for the breakthrough as early as the 16th minute when Martinelli met Xhaka's corner to head on goal, but the Brazilian had his effort cleared off the line by Gelson Fernandes.
David Luiz's evening ended in disappointment after 31 minutes gone as the Brazilian walked off the pitch due to injury, with Matteo Guendouzi drafted in his place across the middle of the park.
The home side hit the front in the first minute of added time courtesy of Aubameyang, who fired in off the underside of the crossbar after firing off a low cross from the right.
However, the visitors levelled matters with their first threat 55 minutes in after Japanese-born Daichi Kamada cut in from the left side of the area to curl into the bottom corner.
Mesut Ozil was hauled off the substitute bench five minutes later in place of Martinelli, as Emery seeked more control of possession around the middle of the park.
In stark contrast, Arsenal went behind four minutes later when Kamada found time and space near the area to drill past Emiliano Martinez following a corner kick.
In the end, the Londoners suffered a first group stage defeat and stretched their winless in all competitions to seven in the process.
