UEFA Champions League
Result: Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs won 4-0 on agg.)
Date: 05 March 2019
Venue: Signal-Iduna Park
Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with a 4-0 aggregate victory over Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.
The Bundesliga leaders had a massive task on their hands to overturn a 3-0 first-leg defeat, although they did have Marco Reus back in the side, after the German midfielder was absent in the first leg.
The home side took control from the onset as Reus and Paco Alcacer carved out a couple half-chances inside the opening 15 minutes.
Spurs had a chance to put the tie out of Dortmund's reach on 28 minutes when Son Heung-min raced clear on goal, however the Korean was unable to convert with only Roman Burki to beat.
Other than Son's chance, it was one-way traffic in the first half although the visitors did have goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to thank for pulling off a couple vital saves, most notably to deny Mario Gotze just before the break.
However, Dortmund's fear were realised as Spurs took the lead three minutes into the second half when Harry Kane got beyond the defence before calmly slotting past Burki.
Dortmund coach opted for a double change on the hour mark as Christian Pulisic and Jacob Bruun Larsen came in for Raphael Guererro and Marius Wolf.
The hosts had nothing but pride to play for in the remaining stages of the half, but they nearly pulled a goal back in the tie when Pulisic nodded over the bar after 76 minutes.
Spurs shot-stopper Hugo Lloris ensured Spurs walked away with a clean sheet as he denied Alcacer in a one-on-one situation late on as the encounter finished 1-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate to the North London outfit.
