Brazilian icon Robinho has revealed why Real Madrid blocked his potential move to Chelsea in 2008.
Maradona: I Regret Taking Drugs At Barca
The 33-year-old joined Manchester City after leaving Los Blancos nine years ago, but he might not have joined the Citizens if things had gone according to plan.
Robinho was initially set to move to London club Chelsea, but because the Blues reportedly sold club merchandise with his name on them prematurely, Real called off the deal.
"My goal was to move to Chelsea – Big Phil (Luiz Felipe Scolari) said I could make the difference for him as his squad, according to him, was not creative enough," the Atletico Mineiro attacker told FourFourTwo.
"But Real Madrid had fallen out with Chelsea – they didn't like them selling shirts with my name on before the deal had been done.
"I'm pretty sure that this error was one of the main reasons why the transfer failed, as it was a matter of pride for Real Madrid."

Robinho scored 16 goals and assisted a further 12 strikes in 53 games for City, but left the club on loan the following season.
