Result: Fulham 1-1 Liverpool
Date: 13 December 2020
Venue: Craven Cottage
Liverpool missed the chance to move top of the Premier League after dropping points at Fulham on Sunday evening.
There was plenty of energy in the hosts' start to this game. Ivan Cavaleiro beat the offside trap to run in behind, but Alisson's strong palms denied the forward from a tight angle.
Once more, Alisson denied Cavaleiro in the 14th minute. Liverpool's defence was slow to react again as the Fulham forward was allowed a clear sight on goal after being played in by Ademola Lookman. But the Reds goalkeeper made himself big to deny the Cottagers.
Scott Parker's side took a deserved lead in the 25th minute. After an initial corner was dealt with, Lookman showed good awareness to thread a ball through for Decordova-Reid. The former Cardiff City man took a touch before unleashing a powerful shot into the far corner, leaving Alisson grasping at thin air.
On the stroke of halftime, Mohamed Salah got his shot away on the turn from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross, but he could not direct it towards goal.
It was end-to-end stuff at the beginning of the second half. First, Alisson denied Cavaleiro from point-blank range. Within seconds, Salah's fierce long-range effort drew a fine save out of Areola.
In the 61st minute, Roberto Firmino neatly threaded the ball through for Jordan Henderson to run onto. But Areola demonstrated tremendous reflexes to deny the Liverpool skipper.
Liverpool won a penalty in the 79th minute after Georginio Wijnaldum's effort hit the arm of Aboubakar Kamara. Salah stepped up and went for power, drilling the ball underneath the dive of Areola.
The Reds threw everything forward in search of a late winner, but Parker's charges remained resolute and held on for the point.
