The Spaniard said the pair made great memories together at the Catalan club, and admitted it was strange not seeing Messi and a few others on the field in his debut for Chelsea.
"Lionel Messi is an excellent teammate, he's a fantastic guy," he told El Pais.
"We lived through a lot together, a lot of games, a lot of goals – he knows me well.
"I'm going to miss him a lot.
"Imagine on the pitch, after so much time, not being able to find Messi, (Jordi) Alba, Andres (Iniesta) or (Sergio) Busquets – it was strange."
Pedro also said staying with Barcelona would've been easy as his life in Spain was great, but felt he should leave because he wanted to play more regularly.
"It would have been easy to stay at Barca, appear in the team photo, keep winning titles and earning money," he added.
"I had a good life, but I felt I should leave.
"My life was comfortable off the pitch, but I wanted to keep playing.
"Let's see how it works out."
