On-Loan Chelsea Star Reveals Latest On Potential International Switch

On-Loan Chelsea Star Reveals Latest On Potential International Switch

Out-on-loan Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi has admitted that the matter of switching his international allegiance from England to Ghana has been weighing on his mind.

Osimhen Helps Napoli Make History Against Mourinho

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has submitted his 55-man provisional squad ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup to the Ghana Football Association, with a number of high-profile names set to be on their way to Qatar once the boss trims the squad to 26.

One player whose name has been floated in the media and could be donning the kit of the four-time Africa Cup of Nations winners when the showpiece comes around is Hudson-Odoi.

The Bayer Leverkusen man has been tipped to switch his allegiances to the west African nation, having seemingly fallen out of favour with England manager Gareth Southgate over the past few years.

Asked recently if he was any closer to being a part of the Ghana national team, the winger remain tight-lipped, but did admit he had been thinking about it.

"Nothing I would say at the moment on camera. I would love to tell you, but I couldn't say," he told the BBC.

"At the moment it's more just focusing on the best I can do here [at Bayer Leverkusen]. You never know what will happen in the future.

"Obviously the Ghana-England situation has been on my mind for a while. But I think right now it was more of the focus of coming here, really getting myself back into shape, playing a lot of games and just feeling like myself. Right now, my mind is just open."

Hudson-Odoi has found game time hard to come by not only with the Three Lions but also in west London with Chelsea in the past couple of years.

Having not been a starter at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel, the 21-year-old is now a regular in the first XI at that BayArena, where he is on loan for the season.

Zidane Set For Return To Football Management?

Speaking to The Athletic, the winger says he felt like a change of scenery was necessary.

"My mindset was, 'I have to get out of there'," Hudson-Odoi said.
