Victor Osimhen was the match-winner when Napoli defeated Jose Mourinho's AS Roma on Sunday evening, with the Nigerian superstar helping Gli Azzurri make history in the process.
Senegal Star: It's Time For An African Nation To Win The World Cup
The clash at the Stadio Olimpico was Osimhen's first start for the Serie A giants since recovering from a knee injury sustained two weeks ago.
Cutting a lonely figure for much of the match, the 23-year-old came alive late in the dying embers of the encounter.
The Super Eagle first missed a gilt-edge chance after being played in behind by Hirving Lozano, but made up for that in the 80th minute when Matteo Politano played the ball over the top of the Roma defence to see Osimhen get on defender Chris Smalling's wrong side before he powered a shot past goalkeeper Rui Patricio to seal the three points with a 1-0 win.
With the goal being the Lagos native's fourth of the 2022/23 Serie A season and his fifth across all competitions, it also ensured that Napoli have won 11 consecutive fixtures across all competitions for only the second time since 1930 – the other run came in 1986 while Diego Maradona was club captain.
"We have a big solidarity in the team and every starting player and the players on the bench know what to do when given the chance. And we just want to keep on going like this," Osimhen said after the victory, as per Premium Times.

Napoli will be hoping their west African hitman stays injury-free for the rest of the campaign as they look to challenge on all fronts. Spalletti's men will face Scottish side Rangers in the UEFA Champions League next, and having just come back from injury, it is likely Osimhen will start as he looks to regain full fitness.
