There were reports of icy relationship between Mourinho and Pogba last season, fuelling speculation that he could leave in the transfer window.
However, after only a week of training, Pogba was included in the line up to face Leicester and was handed the armband, and Mourinho revealed he is one of the options when Antonio Valencia is not playing.
"Last season he was captain a few times," Mourinho told Sky Sports News.
"The captain is [Antonio] Valencia. He is not here. Pogba is one of the options [when Valencia is not here].
"It's his third season, he's come through the academy and knows the club well.
" He is a good example in the dressing room."
