On Monday, the Portuguese club revealed that they had reached an agreement with the Reds for Uruguay striker Nunez's services for an initial fee of €75 million (R1.2 billion)

The 22-year-old had been the subject of a lot of transfer rumours following a scintillating 2021/22 campaign with the record Primeira Liga champions, during which he scored 34 goals in 41 games for the Portuguese outfit, with two of those strikes coming against his new employers in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

His transfer fee of €75 million would make him the Reds' second-most expensive acquisition ever.

Another player Jurgen Klopp recently procured from the Portuguese top flight is Colombian winger Luis Diaz.

The winger earned a €47 million (R791 million) move to Anfield from FC Porto in the January 2022 window after scoring 16 goals in 24 matches in the first half of the campaign for the Dragons.

Having since traded the Iberian Peninsula for Merseyside, the 25-year-old has fitted seamlessly into the Reds' forward line, starting a majority of Liverpool's games as the end of the season approached.

Ex-Al Ahly Star Slams Pitso

Diaz and Nunez are the latest in a line of prolific attackers Klopp has brought in since taking charge of the six-time European champions.

However, the genesis of the team's potent attacking frontline was the trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah.

Mane and Salah complete the 10 of most lucrative signings in Liverpool's history. Between them, the two Africans have found the back of the net 276 times under the German tactician since 2016.

Both have won the Premier League Golden Boot award during their time with the 2019/20 Premier League winners, and continue to be fruitful in front of goal despite the arrivals of new attackers.

The Senegalese cost Liverpool €41.20 million (R693 million) in 2016, while the Reds had to pay AS Roma €42 million (R707 million) for the Egyptian winger.
