The Reds have been dealt a double blow recently, having been beaten out by their Premier League rivals for two of their defensive midfield targets.
According to The Independent, however, the Merseyside outfit has a contingency plan for their recent shortcomings in the transfer market.
Jurgen Klopp is now said to be keen on bringing in Malian midfielder Cheick Doucoure from Crystal Palace before the close of the window, and it is also believed the 23-year-old wants the move to Anfield.
Personal terms are not expected to be an issue, with a price tag of £60 million (R1.4 billion) having reportedly been placed on the former RC Lens man.
The 12-cap Mali international enjoyed an impressive debut season with the south Londoners in 2022/23, and Liverpool are said to view the west African as the most viable option to sign next for their engine room, ahead of names such as Fulham's Joao Paulinha and Nice's Khephren Thuram.
