According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Azzurri and Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali has admitted to a Turin prosecutor that he placed bets on his former side AC Milan.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Magpies from the Serie A giants in the past off-season, is said to have insisted that none of the bets made involving the Rossoneri happened while he was playing for the club.
The versatile playmaker has admitted that he suffers from a gambling addiction, but should his statement be true, he will face no charges pertaining to match-fixing as he will not have been able to affect the outcome of a game.
If he is found to be lying, however, the Lodi native could be suspended from football for three years or more by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
These are the latest developments in the FIGC's investigation into some top Italian players making bets on football matches, an infringement on their code of conduct.
Tonali has been implicated alongside fellow national team members Juventus' Nicolo Fagioli and Nicolo Zaniolo of Aston Villa.

As a result of the ex-Brescia man declaring his addiction, he will be hoping to get a similar punishment to Fagioli, who has received a seven-month ban, a fine as well as mandatory therapy sessions.
It is understood the authorities have also confiscated the player's phone and computer to gather more information.
