How Manchester United Could Line Up in 2021/22 With 3 Star Signings

The Red Devils are currently second on the Premier League log, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City.

At the current rate, it seems unlikely United will catch their crosstown rivals, especially with their poor record against the other traditional "top six" sides in this campaign.

United, though, are seven points ahead of defending champions Liverpool, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been praised for stabilising the club.

However, with United last lifting the Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, the Norwegian must now prove he has what it takes to take his side to the next level and win trophies.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward recently announced that the Manchester club will back their manager in the coming transfer window, leaving fans dreaming of several star signings.

"We will continue to support Ole with a planned, long-term approach to recruitment, focused on the (European) summer windows," he said, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

The Red Devils have already assembled a squad filled with quality, with the feeling around Old Trafford being that only a few more additions are needed to get back to the top.

At the back, United are still looking for another strong defender to partner Harry Maguire, and have reportedly identified Jules Kounde as that man. The Sevilla centre-back could be available for a reported fee of £60 million (R1.26 billion).

In addition, the Premier League giants are still expected to have another go at Jadon Sancho after Borussia Dortmund refused to budge on their £108 million (R2.27 billion) asking price ahead of this campaign. The situation may have changed, though, with BVB feeling the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic and potentially missing out on qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Up front, the Red Devils are still looking for a main striker, with Edinson Cavani having been brought in as a short-term solution. For the long term, Erling Haaland, who played under Solskjaer at Molde in Norway, is believed to be the club's No. 1 target. However, he is being chased by a host of Europe's top clubs, so it will be tricky to lure him to Old Trafford.

United would probably need to spend more than £200 million (R4.2 billion) to get all three players, but would have a very competitive team should those moves materialise.
