A former teammate of Manchester United's captain Harry Maguire says that the England international is not capable of handling pressure.
Ahmed Elmohamady, who shared a dressing room with Maguire for three seasons during their time at Hull City, has said he believes the centre-back is battling to cope with the pressure at the 20-time English champions.
The former Aston Villa wing-back was speaking in the wake of the 29-year-old's latest blooper against Tottenham Hotspur, where he conceded an own goal in the Red Devils' 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
"Harry was with me in Hull City and in my opinion, he doesn't have the level to be the Manchester United captain," Elmohamady said on beIN Sports after the match.
"Manchester United need a player with a strong personality and I hope that the next manager will give the captaincy to Ronaldo, if he stays.
"Ronaldo can handle this responsibility and pressure; however, Maguire can't handle this pressure.
"So I think that the pressure he has by wearing the captain's armband is affecting his performances.
"Maguire performed really well with Leicester, a team that competes to be in the top six of the Premier League, and maybe this is his level.
"He doesn't have the level to play for the biggest team in the history of England."
The pair were at the KC Stadium together from 2014 up until 2017, where they played alongside each other on 61 occasions, according to KingFut.
They helped the Tigers gain promotion to the Premier League in 2016 when they defeated Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 in the EFL Championship play-off final, courtesy of Mohamed Diame's solitary goal.
