A former Liverpool player has made the claim that Egypt international Mohamed Salah has lost his dribbling ability due to his body shape, and "has not been the same player" since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
'I Don't Understand Anything Klopp Says'
Usually among the world's most lethal goalscorers, the 30-year-old has scored just 14 times in 37 appearances for the Reds in the 2022 calendar year, less than half the tally he finished last year on.
Salah's struggles in front of goal have coincided with Liverpool's stuttering start to the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, with the Reds having claimed just two victories in the league so far this season.
Ex-Liverpool fullback Jose Enrique, who represented the Merseyside club between 2011 and 2016, feels Salah is less effective as a dribbler these days and that it is his body shape that is hampering his game.
"Salah hasn't been the [same] player since January when he came back from AFCON," he told Lord Ping.
"His scoring since then has been really poor by his usual standards. It would be great for a player like me, but for Salah, it's not good enough.
"First of all, the problem is a lack of competition. For many games, he hasn't been good enough. At the moment, he's too strong and you can see he has lost a bit of speed.
"He hasn't gotten old in one year but he should look at people like [Darwin] Nunez, Luis Diaz – they have the perfect body shape.
"He's too strong at the moment and he's lost the ability to beat players in a one-on-one situation."
