Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez guided Manchester United to a 2-0 win over Swansea City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Lukaku gave Jose Mourinho's charges the lead in the fifth minute with a strike that found the top corner with the help of a slight deflection following a through ball from Sanchez, 1-0.
The Chile international made it 2-0 for United in the 20th minute after Jesse Lingard cut open the City defence with an incisive pass that found Sanchez, who slotted into the bottom corner from 18-yards out.
Lingard almost bagged a third for the hosts in the 34th minute after being gifted space on the edge of the box but his shot sailed wide.
United had the ball in the back of the net once again with five minutes remaining in the first-half but Lingard's goal was ruled out for offside.
Ten minutes into the second half, Sanchez was unlucky not to have found his second goal of the match after he was set up by Lukaku, but the former Arsenal man's header sailed just over the crossbar.
Juan Mata also wasted another chance a put the game to bed two minutes before the hour mark following a delicate chip from Paul Pogba as the Spanish midfielder fired over the bar from point-blank range.
The Swans had to wait until the after 65 minutes for their first efforts at goal, although goalkeeper David de Gea produced two superb saves to deny substitute Tammy Abraham.
United hardly got out of second gear in the final 10 minutes, while Jose Mouirnho introduced Scott McTominay as they saw out the remaining stages with ease.
