English Premier League Report: Manchester City v Liverpool 09 September 2017

English Premier League

Result: Manchester City 5-0 Liverpool

Date:09 September 2017

Venue: Etihad

Manchester City thrashed 10-men Liverpool 5 - 0 to earn all three points in front of their home crowd on Saturday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola's men looked the livelier of the two teams in the early exchanges as they attacked with pace and showed early intent.

Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho asked serious questions of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet with a well-struck shot but the Belgian shot stopper pulled off a great save.

Kevin de Bruyne beautifully split the Liverpool defense to find an on-running Sergio Aguero. The Argentine cleverly rounded the keeper and slotted home to put his side 1 – 0 ahead after 24 minutes.

On the half hour mark Salah found himself in acres of space in the Man City box but the Liverpool winger disappointingly shot straight at the keeper and was unable to bring his side to level terms.

Liverpool were dealt a huge blow after Senegal international Sadio Mane's high boot struck the face of City's keeper Ederson Moraes which saw him receive his marching orders. The keeper was subsequently substituted and was replaced by Claudio Bravo.

After having his headed goal disallowed, Gabriel Jesus made no mistake as he headed his team into a 2 – 0 lead from yet another De Bruyne assist.

The hosts started the second half brilliantly and Aguero thought he had his second goal of the day only to be ruled offside. Moments later he put his strike partner Gabriel Jesus through on goal and the Brazilian calmly slotted home to compound Liverpool's woes.

At 3 – 0 behind Liverpool sat back and tried to soak up the Man City pressure without really going forward.

They weren't able to keep City out for long though as Benjamin Mendy's low cross found Leroy Sane who beautifully finished to extend his side's lead to 4 – 0 with 13 minutes remaining.

With a minute left on the clock, Leroy Sane's exquisitely curled shot gave Mignolet no chance as it found the top right corner to complete the 5 - 0 rout.
