Many Manchester United fans are very excited about Bastian Schweinsteiger's arrival but here are five things you didn't know about the German.

Schweinsteiger joined the Red Devils following 500 appearances for the Bayern Munich and has been selected as the next star in our 5 Things feature.
1) Schweinsteiger almost turned into a pro-skier before deciding to carry on playing football. "I enjoyed both sports, but then came the offer from Bayern Munich and I just had a gut feeling it was right Football was so popular, and skiing was never like that. Carrying those skis around was annoying too," he explained in 2006.
2) The German national team captain becomes the first German to play for Manchester United. Despite their 137-year existence Schweinsteiger is the first German to play for the club's senior team.
3) The 30-year-old started his senior career as a left-back at Bayern. Soon his pace and creativity saw him switch to the left wing. But when Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery arrived at the club, no other than Louis van Gaal moved him into the central midfield role.
4) You may have spotted Schweinsteiger at recent tennis events and that's because he is dating Serbian tennis player, Ana Ivanovic.
5) Early on in his Bayern career, Schweinsteiger was known for his off-field drama. Once, security personal caught the 18-year-old Schweinsteiger enjoying himself with a girl in the whirlpool at Bayern's training complex at 2:00 am in the morning. He later said it was his cousin and he showed her the training facilities.
