Sadio Mane's Shirt No. At Bayern Munich Confirmed

Amid suggestions he could ask Leroy Sane for the No. 10 jersey at Bayern Munich, Sadio Mane's shirt number at the Bundesliga champions has been confirmed following his arrival from Liverpool.

The 30-year-old completed a switch to the Bavarians last week following a fairly straightforward pursuit of his signature, with a total fee of £35 million (R681 million), including add-ons, enough to secure his services.

In England, Mane donned the No. 10 shirt at Southampton before his move to the Reds in 2016, and only inherited that jersey number from Philippe Coutinho following the Brazilian's club-record sale to Barcelona in the 2018/19 season.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner will, however, not be wearing arguably the most prestigious football number in the game in Germany as he has settled on the No. 17 shirt at his new club.

"I picked out 17 from the free jersey numbers at FC Bayern and aim to celebrate many successes with my team and this number," he told Bayern's official website.

"Now I'm really looking forward to starting preparations for the season with my new teammates very soon."

Only five players in Bayern's history – Christian Ziege, Thorsten Frank, Mark van Bommel, Jerome Boateng and Michael Cuisance – have worn the No. 17 jersey for the club before Mane, according to Transfermarkt.
