Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has responded angrily to Robert Lewandowski publicly pleading with the Bundesliga champions to sell him.
Lewandowski 'Chooses' Next Club
While it is well-known that the Poland international is looking for a way out of the German giants, the 33-year-old declared his plan is to leave Bayern ahead of the 2022/23 season on Monday, insisting his time at the club is over.
"My story with Bayern has come to an end, I cannot imagine further good co-operation," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"I hope they will not stop me (from leaving) just because they can. A transfer is the best solution for everyone."
Barcelona are said to be strongly interested in his signature, and are reportedly willing to offer €40 million (R666 million) for his services, although the Bavarians have insisted the player will see out his contract, which expires in June next year.
Lewandowski's public remarks made their way back to ex-Bayern goalkeeper and current CEO Kahn, who seemed to suggest the striker is not grateful for what he has been given at the Allianz Arena.
"I can't tell you why Robert chose this way to communicate his situation," he said, as per the Mirror.
"Public statements like that don't get you anywhere.
"Robert should know what he has at Bayern. Appreciation is not a one-way street."
Lewandowski scored 50 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions for Bayern this season, and has 344 strikes to his name overall since his arrival in Munich from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
