Manchester United Enter Race For €100m-Rated 'New Mesut Ozil'

Manchester United have already spent more than €150 million on new signings this season, but could reportedly soon topple that amount after stepping up their chase for the "next Mesut Ozil", who is said be valued at €100 million by his club.

The Red Devils have fallen behind crosstown rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, who have dominated the league for the past couple of seasons now. United finished in sixth spot in 2018/19, and started slowly again in this campaign.

However, recent victories over top-six rivals Tottenham Hotspur and City in last week's Manchester derby have given the club new confidence.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted at more transfer activity in the coming windows, saying his side need to add a few more players.

"We are looking to strengthen in many positions," he said after United's 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, as quoted by Metro.

"We are getting there but we still need two or three players to have enough numbers."

Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz is reportedly one of the players Solskjaer would like to sign.

The 20-year-old had a breathtaking 2018/19 campaign, scoring 20 goals and assisting another seven strikes in 42 appearances.

His fine performances have seen him being linked with a host of Europe's elite clubs, including Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and City.

However, according to Sport Bild, United are making moves to beat the competition to the Germany international, who has been dubbed the "new Mesut Ozil" and is said to be valued at €100 million (R1.61 billion) by his club.
