Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has revealed that he rejected a transfer to Manchester United in the latest window, and detailed what he told Jose Mourinho over a phone call.
Reports: The Four Players Zidane Would Sign For Man Utd
The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner was heavily linked with the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain in the latest transfer window, but a move away from the German giants did not materialise.
Boateng has now admitted he did have the chance to join United, but added that he told Mourinho he would not leave Bayern unless he was 100% certain it was the right move.
"I had enquiries from PSG and Manchester United," he told Bild.
"I did not want just to get away from Bayern, but I was thrilled to try a new challenge. I feel well at Bayern. It's one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honour for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me. I explained to Jose that it's difficult to leave Bayern, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club."
