Borussia Dortmund maintained their winning start to the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign, after coming from behind to beat newly promoted FC Koln 3-1 on Friday evening at Rheinenergiestadion. Dortmund were boosted by the return of goalkeeper Roman Burki in the line-up but new signing Julian Brandt had to wait a little longer for his first start, as he was named on the bench alongside Mario Gotze. The visitors were on the front foot in the early stages, threatening to grab an early lead on set-pieces and first real chance for Lucien Favre's charges fell to Marco Reus in the 23rd minute after finding spaces to unleash a shot from just outside the box, but his effort was parried away by shot-stopper Timo Horn. The home side were growing in the game after that and took a shock lead just before the half-hour mark, thanks to Dominick Drexler's header from the left side of the six-yard box, following a corner situation. Paco Alcacer almost levelled matters for the Black and Yellows 12 minutes before the break, with a free header inside the box but his effort sailed over the bar following a cross from Thorgan Hazard. Dortmund came back firing from the break and they came close to equalising ten minutes inside the second stanza with Alcacer getting on the end of Hazard's cross once again but his header was smothered by Horn. Jadon Sancho, who has been linked with a move to England, finally levelled for BVB with 20 minutes remaining after firing a left-footed strike past Horn to make it two goals in two games. The visitors were crowding the forward areas in the closing stages, searching for the lead and they finally snatched the second goal in the last four minutes courtesy of Aschraf Hakimi, who nodded home a cross from Lukasz Piszczek. Alcacer sealed the three points for the Black and Yellows deep in stoppage time, finding the bottom corner with a low strike after he was sent through by Sancho as Dortmund remain top of the table.
