The Portuguese was crowned the 2017 Ballon d'Or, which is often also referred to as the European Footballer of the Year award because only players plying their trade in Europe can be nominated, winner at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
France Football handed their Golden Ball out on Thursday, while FIFA had already named Ronaldo as The Best Men's Player in 2017, which was previously also known as the World Footballer of the Year award, in their ceremony on 23 October.
The Ballon d'Or was voted for by 176 journalists – one from each country on France Football's voting list – and Ronaldo received 946 points, equaling 33.76% of the votes.
Messi followed in second place with 670 points, which calculates to 23.91% of the votes, while Neymar completed the podium with 361 points, or 12.88%.
Gianluigi Buffon was the only other player to receive more than 100 points, collecting 221 points, while Luka Modric came fifth with 84 points.
At 18 years old, Kylian Mbappe is the youngest player ever to be in the top 10 after finishing in seventh place with 48 points.
The highest ranked African was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 21st position with 14 points, while Sadio Mane – the only other African among the final 30 nominees – ended in 23rd spot with 10 points.

Philippe Coutinho and Dries Mertens were the only players on the 30-man shortlist who did not receive any votes from the 176 journalists.
