While Masandawana are still reeling from their Carling Knockout Cup final defeat this past weekend, their Congolese counterparts have not lost a match since March in all competitions.
During their lengthy unbeaten run, the Greens and Blacks have claimed some notable scalps, including eliminating Petro de Luanda in the competition's qualifying round.
However, while they are in a rich vein of form, Maniema Union's head coach, Papy Kimoto, is wary of facing a wounded Masandawana to open their continental campaign.
"Tomorrow will be a different game, maybe the beast of Mamelodi Sundowns can rise after losing," the Kinshasa native said at his pre-match press conference.
"So, we think it's a different game. I cannot say this is the right time to face them because they are a very good team, and they cannot lose their confidence after only one game.
"We have prepared and we know it will be a difficult game tomorrow. They are good and they will still be good tomorrow, but we are here to get a result."
This will be the second time the two sides face off in Africa's premier club competition, having previously met in the preliminary rounds of the 2021/22 campaign.
