The Capetonian was recently appointed as the head coach of the Harambee Stars after his contract at Manchester United was not renewed ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
He arrived at the home of the east African side with three fellow South Africans as coaches alongside him namely, Joseph Moeneeb and Vasili Manousakis, but now the Football Kenya Federation is on the verge of signing a local coach.
According to FlashScore, a member of the FKF has confirmed that former Kenya Police FC coach Anthony Kimani will be hired to accompany McCarthy and his compatriots to oversee the national team.
Former Nairobi City Stars tactician Nicholas Muyoti was tipped to become the boss that helps the 47-year-old with the football landscape in Kenya, however, upon further analysis, the nations football federation believed that Kimani would be a better fit.
“Our initial intention was to go for Nicholas (Muyoti) but after another second thought and thorough search, we have settled for Anthony Kimani,” a top FKF official told the aforementioned outlet.
“He (Kimani) will be unveiled in the next one or two weeks but I am sure he will be on the bench when Harambee Stars play their next fixture as the deputy coach to Benni (McCarthy) and his technical staff.”
