Ivory Coast Manager Reacts To Bafana Result

Following their 1-1 draw with South Africa in an international friendly on Tuesday night, Ivory Coast head coach Jean-Louis Gasset shared his immediate thoughts on the game in a post-match press conference.

Bafana took the lead against the Elephants in the eighth minute through star Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane, who has now scored seven times for the national team since his debut in 2014.

The Ivorians, however, came back into the match in the second half as they continued to put pressure on Hugo Broos' defence, and eventually equalised when Borussia Dortmund's Sebastien Haller struck in the 65th minute.

Gasset was full of praise for his team despite only drawing in the friendly match on home soil, saying his team performed as if they were "allergic to defeat".

"If we are positive, we tell ourselves that we were tired after the Morocco match," he said, according to Sport-Ivoire.

"And this was seen with players who had heavy legs. But the fact of coming back in the second half is a good thing.

"Mentally, my team did not give up. She was led but she refused defeat, she even banished it from her mind. We had heavy legs, but I saw players who were allergic to defeat."

Ivory Coast were unable to find the winner in Abidjan, in a match that was attended by more than 21 000 fans.
