The former Mamelodi Sundowns chairman appears destined to serve a second term as the head of African football after he was the only individual to announce his candidacy for the post in the CAF elections set to be held on 12 March 2025.
His announcement came prior to the latest General Assembly in Addis Ababa, where, ahead of the congregation, the South African philanthropist received numerous requests from various CAF Member Association Presidents, Zonal Union Presidents, and key stakeholders to stay on board as the leader of the Cairo-based institution.
Dr. Motsepe has been credited with a significant fiscal turnaround of the organisation.
Inheriting a CAF executive that had suffered major reputational damage under the previous administration of Ahmad Ahmad, the 62-year-old has managed to reduce the establishment's losses from $28.9 million (R525.9 million) to $9.2 million (R167 million). From the budgeted revenues in 2024/25, CAF is also projecting a net profit of $11.7 million (R212.8 million).
He has also managed to increase prize money for CAF competitions and annual grants to all member associations.
With the 12 November deadline to announce candidacy passing and nobody else making their intentions known besides Motsepe, it seems that the Pretoria native will run unopposed in the coming elections.
