The story
After more than 1 000 matches in just over two decades, FC Barcelona's former midfield maestro, Andrés Iniesta, brought the curtain down on a truly remarkable career.
Iniesta, who is widely regarded as one of the game's greatest midfielders, spent the majority of his 22-year career at Barcelona after graduating from the club's famous La Masia academy.
After making his senior 2002, he went on to win 29 honours, including nine La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions Leagues crowns.
For La Roya, he earned 131 caps, winning back-to-back UEFA Euro's in 2008 and 2012 and scored the winning goal in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final against the Netherlands at FNB Stadium.
That extra-time winner was arguably Iniesta's most important career goal and a moment that will live long in the memory of football fans from not only Spain, but the rest of the world.
From the build up, that included a cheeky Iniesta backheel, to the finish and the celebration brought to close what was one of the most iconic World Cup tournaments to date.

I think the greatest thing about Andrés Iniesta is that in the greatest moment of his career, and in Spanish football history, he elected to remember someone who was not there to witness it.
